My profile

Two guiding mottos shape my work:

The Market is an instrument to tell the efficient from the inefficient. It is not a substitute for responsibility.

Charles Handy, Irish economist and philosopher, bestseller author

You better take human beings as they are – there are no others.

Konrad Adenauer, Rhinelander, 1st Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany

… and I like to add:

Do it with passion, humour and generosity!

BC-2008--sitting2_webMore than twenty years of work experience in international Executive Education and Development and in Higher Education Cooperation inspire my current work as an independent consultant and coach. Diverse roles – from free lancer to managing director – and a previous education and career as a journalist for major German magazines provided me with a broad knowledge base, quick connectivity , diverse networks as well as with openness for very different ways of thinking and living.

Till 2012 I was Co-Managing Director of Common Purpose Germany , a non-profit organization which offers leadership development for the better functioning of civic society, working with senior and young leaders from all sectors of society . The organization which originated twenty years ago in the UK is today active in many countries across the world.

Previously, I was Head of Executive Education at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, one of the leading German business schools. I was responsible for the top ranked Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Program and for the customised company programmes, including business development, programme design, management and facilitation. In 2010 , for WHU I won the Excellence in Practice Award of the European Foundation für Management Development for a joint Executive Development Programme with MAN SE and Oxford Said Business School.

WHU was a “come back” for me: Much earlier on in the Eighties, after WHU was founded in 1984 as one of the first private business schools in the country, I had already helped building up the international programmes of the School as Director of External Relations.

In the Nineties I went to Brussels where I worked for ten years with the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), a large international non-profit organisation serving a network of stakeholders in management education: business schools, universities, large companies, consultancies. I served as Director for Business School Services, then Corporate Member Services, and eventually became Director General (1995-2000). Under my leadership EQUIS was introduced, an international strategic quality audit for business schools which today has established itself as one of two global accreditation systems.

In 2000 I founded my own company with my husband, a US citizen and HRD expert and trainer: InterContext, a Brussels-based consulting company for organisational and human resource development. I worked, among other assignments, as Vice President Europe for Duke Corporate Education and as Senior Adviser to the European University Association (EUA). My work concentrated on internationalization and cross-culture/diversity issues, institution building, leadership development, with a particular focus on management development in the European Higher Education Area, including various publications.

My academic background is in political science and communication. I studied in Italy, Germany and Belgium and obtained my Master degree from Université Libre de Bruxelles.

German born and based near Bonn, I work in four languages (German, English, French and Italian, with working knowledge of Spanish).

I started my career as a political editor and journalist on international affairs, writing for major German magazines (Wirtschaftswoche, GEO, manager magazin).
